How does a dedicated server work?
Dedicated web hosting is when a hosting service provider leases you a dedicated server. According to your request, the server is configured, which may require a website, private cloud, a database, streaming, VOIP, gaming, web hosting, or any other business. Although the hosting provider leases you the server, it is up to you to manage it.
And it does not have to be one: many dedicated servers can also be put together for high performance, availability, and expansion. Large business loads and applications such as large businesses – such as AI, gaming, VFX, and AdTech – can be particularly appealing.
We’ve written a bit earlier about business concerns, respecting dedicated servers, and managed servers. Here, we are going to discuss how dedicated servers work.
Choose your hardware
One of the major benefits of a dedicated server is customization, and it starts at the hardware level. What processor do you need to use on the server? Dual processor with up to twenty-four cores or a single processor with up to twenty-four cores?
Then it would help if you considered the memory. If you have the same processor, you can get 64 GB DDR4 RAM. But if you take the spring of dual-processor, you can manage up to 256 GB of DDR4 RAM.
In local storage, you can customize your size with SATA, SAS, and SSD drives of different sizes. And, of course, you can configure these drives in a RAID set.
Finally, you can further improve your server by adding NAS or SAN block storage, a dedicated load balancer, or a firewall.
Select your software
Customizability doesn’t stop with hardware. When you have a dedicated server, you have many options depending on what software you want to install. From the start of your operating system, you can usually choose between different versions of Windows Server, Santos, Debian, and Ubuntu.
If you are running a virtual server (or servers) on your dedicated server, you will need virtualization software such as Hyper-V, VMware ESXi, or Zen Hypervisor.
You can also get control options for your server. These include C-Panel, WHM, or Plesk.
Of course, depending on the hardware’s configuration, the software can be installed on your server even more. CMS software, mail software, FTP software, and others can be used as an additional software.
Choose your additional services.
As we discussed earlier, leasing a dedicated server means you manage the server. Generally, the hosting service will provide support for hardware issues. Other services and premium support may be offered for an additional fee. Backup, Server migration, cloud backup, DDOS protection, various security services, firewalls, and rapid response are examples of other services.
